Marlon and diatoms

Another one of my paintings - painted over another one. This one is "Marlon and diatoms", loosely based on Marlon Brando, but not as handsome as the prototype. Oh well.  Random guy drinking coffee with his dog and diatoms - they are really beautiful, I want to figure out ways to include them in more paintings. By the way, note how in the beginning stages "Marlon" looks like some sort of puffy scary character.

Final version:

Process

Sometimes I take my old painting and change it. Several years ago I made a painting of two clowns (upper left corner) based on two people I saw in my rear view mirror. I am guessing they were mother and her adult son. They look interesting, I thought, but I don't think anyone else shared my viewpoint :)
Some paintings stand the test of time and I still like them years later but many do not. This was one of those cases and I decided to change it. Now we have what my friend called "Queen and her decorator" :)
Here are some more details - I used acrylic ink to put details on the background - it is a kind of wallpaper with doodles on it.
